Django Reinhardt is one of my most recent influences. I was introduced to his music by one of my uncles. Of course, I had heard his name before, and I knew that he played with just two or three fingers (I wasn't quite sure which), but I had never had the desire to really hear his music. My uncle kept pushing me to listen to some Django, but I kept forgetting. Finally, at least a year later, I tried him out. My uncle was right. I instantly liked him. Two days later, I transcribed his solo from "Minor Swing" for my jazz improvisation class.
Django is nothing short of amazing. He sparkles technically, he has excellent musicality, and his riffs are some of the coolest, smoothest, ripping lines you will ever hear. You can learn more about him at this website. |
